about

Hi, we’re Doubletake. We want to challenge the established in interesting and unexpected ways.
Doubletake Theatre
Doubletake Theatre is a new collaborative theatre company created by Ella Pound and Molly Byrne, focusing on the development of new writing. The company prioritises work which takes a second glance at familiar narratives and structures, offering a ‘double-take’.

Doubletake is always conscious of its relationship with an audience, playful with form, and compelled by theatre which acknowledges what it is.

We love work which is curious, witty, queer, and genre-bending.

THE PEOPLE

Doubletake Theatre

Molly Byrne, Director (she/her)

Molly Byrne (she/her) is an emerging director and writer from Gloucestershire. She is ignited by theatre which is witty, sharp, and knows what questions it wants to ask. She loves the new- whether it be a perspective she has never heard before, an innovative take on a classic, or a surprising way to tell a story. She has a particular interest in workplace dramas and plays about lesbians.

Molly has a BA in English from the University of Cambridge. She trained as a stage manager with the National Youth Theatre and was a member of their Scribers dramaturgy group

Molly once began working as Christmas temporary staff at an artisan cheese shop and accidentally stayed there for a year (she is a sucker for a sheep’s milk cheese). She also loves reading unsettling contemporary fiction and feeling like a giant in a model village.

Ella Pound, Producer (she/they)

Ella is an early career theatre theatremaker and producer from London. She is interested in working on and with new writing, verbatim and documentary theatre, and anything based in the archival. Their aim is to make work that challenges preconceptions of what theatre can and should be.

She has a BA in English from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Arts Management, Policy & Practice from the University of Manchester, during which she wrote a dissertation on the British Library's Playscripts Collections that discussed how theatre censorship affected - and continues to affect - archival theory and practice. It won the Lorraine Lim Prize for Best Dissertation.

Outside of their theatre practice, she works in the Commercial team at Little Angel Theatre and likes walks in nice parks, eating pasta and watching The West Wing (preferably at the same time). They also love the band Bleachers.
